Gunner Inglorious. 24563 Henderson, JH, 2nd NZEF. (1945) 1945 Harry H Tombs.
This is the story of an ordinary NZ soldier (not an officer) and is the author's personal chronicle about the pain of shrapnel wounds, mass murder, suffering and defiance in the face of desperate misery and starvation.
The author was injured at Sidi Rezegh, taken Prisoner of War, and underwent amputation for a gangrenous leg in a filthy Italian Hospital.
