3 PEWTER PLATTERS OF OLD COUNTRY VILLAGE SCENES
No reserve  |  Closed: 11:39 am, Mon 17 Jan 2005
Each platter displays a different scene. The left shows a Flemish lady at work in traditional lace making. The is the heaviest platter in black pewter at 0.6kg, with an angel mark of pure pewter on the back and a fitting to hang it on the wall, as is the traditional use in Western Europe. The right platter is of two villagers washing their feet in a stream, presumably on a hot day after a tiring stint in the fields. This also has a pure pewter mark on the back and is more ‘silver’ than the previous and weighs 0.5kg. It is also the oldest of the three. The front platter depicts a scene of two boys scoffing grapes and watermelon on the village wall. It also has a fitting to hang it on the wall and is made of lead-free pewter. All three are finished in the scalloped edge design used for centuries in European pewter.
Diameter: 22cm
