Serial ATA
SATA is a computer bus technology primarily designed for transfer of data to and from HDDs and optical drives. It uses only 4 signal-lines, allowing for much more compact cables compared to PATA.

device initiated power management
When there are no commands on the HDD, this feature automatically switches on power saving mode and cuts down on electricity through the SATA cable.

SATA Native Command Queuing (NCQ) feature set
SATA NCQ is created to improve the HDD performance by re-ordering the commands sent by the computer to the HDD.

enable/disable staggered spin-up
Staggered spin-up of HDD is not confined solely to mobile drives, and is a feature of many multi-drive systems using RAID.
